CHALLENGE

Create an easy-to-administer system to allow FAB to elegantly present the hundreds of cultural goings-ons in their community every month, and bolster performing arts audience engagement in the East Village of New York City.

SOLUTION

Draw on FAB's strong brand identity, unique mission, and fabulous constituents to create a website both functional and beautiful.

Design Brooklyn was asked by the Fourth Arts Block to create a public site to represent its programming in the East Village, as well as the events of dozens of neighborhood cultural organizations and constituents. The site had to have a back-end that could handle any sort of media (from HD video to embedded youtube content to podcasts), feature a custom e-ticketing solution, and track sales inventory for the entire cultural district. The system required that data be ported from all sorts of different sources, and effortlessly populate a single site with thousands of event lists, banner ads, and rental listings.

This is some pretty complicated stuff, but the real challenge was making the system super-powerful and incredibly easy to use. Design Brooklyn built a custom Content Management System (CMS) that allowed FAB to create multiple tiers of administrative access, and ran the user interface through nearly a dozen refinement cycles so that the system tools were simple to use and powerful in practice.

Our design team collaborated with FAB to create a colorful, playful and easy-to-navigate site that gave users access to the breadth and depth of the culture of the East Village.
