In March, nicholas leichter dance presented his and Monstah Black's own take on "The Wiz," breaking it down with the help of DanceNOW [NYC] in Joe's Pub on Lafayette Street. "'The Whiz: Obamaland,' a version of which squeezed into Joe’s Pub in March, is a funky fantasia on the themes and characters of “The Wiz.” Remixing some of the musical’s tracks, adding some Missy Elliot, and just grooving on Quincy Jones arrangements, Leichter and his crew show their love for the material with club flash and smoke and a level of sexiness that somehow didn’t make it into the movie. Monstah Black, responsible for mixing the score, sings, prowls, and preens."
